Hi, I’m Oliver and this is my second and last year (que the tears) at Little Lighthouse! I love learning and my parents are so thankful for a school that not only embraces differently abled people but celebrates them. Every donation towards Laps for Little ones goes directly towards continuing the mission of providing a tuition free education for disabled children 0-6 years old in the central Mississippi area. Little Lighthouse has changed my life in so many great ways in only a short period of time! Before starting I had tremendous social anxiety and would only accept help and attention from a few trusted adults and didn’t trust other kids at all. I loved to watch them play but wouldn’t get close enough to be involved, as you can imagine that made it hard to make friends! Now I roll myself right in the middle of it and have no reservations in getting involved or having other kids get close to me. So not only am I no longer afraid of people but I have independent mobility in my wheelchair and can go and do as I please! I have begun to “sing” songs, which is just humming but it’s a new form of communication that brings joy to myself and my family. I’m also able to isolate my pointer finger to point to things I want as well which is a new skill I’ve developed while being at Little Lighthouse! There are many other things but those are a few of the big ways Little Lighthouse has improved my life and examples of how they can change the lives of other kids like me.
